Saving our Green Belt for future generations

by Sandwell LibDems on 26 April, 2024

Sandwell already has the lowest level of Green Belt in the Black Country, yet developers still want to encroach into the remaining Green Belt and green spaces we have left. It also has the lowest level of tree cover, with Dudley, Walsall, and Wolverhampton all having a better Tree Equity Score than Sandwell. And only Walsall has a percentage exceeding 20%, the minimum target for our towns.

Trees are important for combatting Climate Change, reduce pollution by removing tonnes of air-borne particles from the air, and helping to prevent flooding by absorbing rainwater. Sandwell needs more trees, not less, and we deplore loopholes in government regulations that allow developers to try and get round environmental policies designed to protect Green Belt and green spaces.
